Open source

Fountain is an open-source, self-hosted application. Nobody sells it as a hosted service. This page says what is open and where each thing lives.

The names

Name	What it is
Fountain	The server, the CLI, the TypeScript SDK and this manual. The name of the project.
Managoat	The GitHub organization and the domain. `managoat.com` is the instance that the maintainer runs for themselves. It runs the same code that you can run.

The licences

The server (`apps/fountain`)	Apache-2.0	Run it, change it, host it, ship it in a closed product. Keep the required license and notices when you redistribute it.
`cli/` and `sdk/typescript`	Apache-2.0	Build on the API or ship a client in a closed product. Keep the required license and notices when you redistribute it.

The server and the clients use the same licence. A connection to Fountain, or a changed server that you host, puts no copyleft obligation on you.

Earlier releases of the server used the AGPL-3.0-or-later. Those releases stay under the AGPL for anyone who has them.

The NOTICE file holds the third-party attribution.

The Python, Elixir or Swift SDK	Retired. `fountain-agent-sdk` on PyPI, `fountain_sdk` on Hex and the `sdk-swift-v*` tags stay published but are no longer maintained; use the TypeScript SDK or the HTTP API.

There is no separate project website. The manual you read now is the project site, and the repo README is its front page. One copy of each stays correct.

What the maintainer's instance adds

Nothing that is not in the repo. managoat.com runs the release image with the egress broker on. The configuration reference lists every switch, so an instance of your own can match it or not.

To contribute

Read CONTRIBUTING.md and CLAUDE.md in the repo. The second file is the contributor guide, and coding agents read it too.
